Praying the Afternoon (None, 3pm)

From the tambourine

And dance to the still

Of the dead calf’s skin

Hand on the drum

Hand on the silence

All things pass at three

In the afternoon, in

Nodding and heat

Cardinals gone from

Every branch

The calf’s skin still

What should

What shouldn’t

What could

But can’t

Noticing

Passing

Knowing

Passing

What is not

And what is

Silence
