The Bloody Mary game: it’s a classic urban legend. There are many variations, but here is one: go into a bathroom that has a mirror. Light a candle. Now spit around thirteen times, each time saying, “Hail! Bloody Mary!” Stop. Look in the mirror? What do you see? Run out of the bathroom screaming.
Yes, Bloody Mary appears in the mirror. Or, at least, something appears in the mirror. Fact is, we can fool ourselves into seeing or thinking just about anything. So, for me, one central focus for the spiritual journey is clearing out as much illusion and delusion as possible, remember one of my favorite passages from Christian scripture:
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. (1 John 4:8 NASB)
Spin around thirteen times thinking about that!
