The Dead ALL Arranged

under many wreaths the state

arranges its dead—

for this

for that

and all for cause

all for good reason

no, never a fashion

no, never a whim

no, the steady waves

of grave on grave

say that—

all for cause

all for reason

all under control

the wreaths say that

all drowned

in the shipwreck

called history

but that’s in the past

now it’s all for cause

all for reason

all under control

the wreaths say that

yes, gather round

don’t you see

now it’s all under control

all we need now

is good behavior

and we’ll round the straight (then)

and get ourselves to the narrows (then)

only we need

some cooperation

wave on wave

of wreaths say that

the dead all arranged

by the state

  1. An anthem – quality poem. The main point can be argued – some things may, in fact, be worth dying for – but your POV and love for the fallen as real, breathing humans with stilled hearts comes across.
