Daodejing 64.

Something stopped

is easy to catch;

what has not arrived

is easy to stop.

The fragmented

is easy to scatter.

Act before an event has happened;

order is best established

before disorder has begun.

The tree too large

to wrap arms around

began as a tiny sprout;

the tallest tower rises

on a heap of dirt.

The journey of

a thousand miles

begins with a single

step.

Those acting for their own

benefit do harm;

those who grasp

lose their hold.

The enlightened do

otherwise,

never rushing.

As much care of

the end as of the beginning

means success.

The enlightened do not

wish for what others wish for,

and do not overreach.

The enlightened desire

what others do not;

the enlightened see

what others pass over.

Thus the enlightened assist

the natural way of things,

never acting for self alone.
