Digging the Fake Lake

A fake lake will grow
water,

if the rain falls;

will upend ducks
diving for supper.

Yet it’s the oblivion
that waves speak of,

that says dredging
will fail the foxtails,

and the next Moses
will find stillness

exploding—

no place to lead
anyone through.
